Learning for Life

At Cedarwood we recognise that for many students attending a new course can be daunting. We will be there to support you at every step.

Our qualified and considerate staff have an in depth understanding of the diverse backgrounds our students come from and will endeavour to support you through your qualification.

Cedarwood will aid in overcoming obstacles to education in a variety of ways, including taxis, childcare and meals. In addition, all our courses are accredited and free of charge for those aged 19 and over and living in the North of Tyne area.

Cedarwood Learning for Life Department prides itself on being a Matrix accredited organisation which demonstrates our commitment to giving the best possible information, advice and guidance to all our students from the begging to the end of their journey with us.

Cedarwood enables students from all backgrounds to restart their educational journey by breaking down as many barriers as possible to help students access our courses, by offering travel expenditure, lunches form our Bistro Cafe, and childcare onsite if needed.

During your time as a student, you have access to understanding and knowledgeable teachers and support staff who will support you through your level 2 qualification and take any individual needs into consideration.

Once you have completed your qualifications our dedicated Aftercare team will help you decide on the best next steps to reach your goals and will work with you to create an individual plan that will allow you make the most of your qualification and opportunity's. This support will include checks Aftercare that lasts up to six months after your course so you can rely on us if you need any extra help.

Because your wellbeing a is a top priority to us our guidance revolves around a myriad of services such as, wellbeing support, hobbies, social groups, NHS and mental health so that all your needs can be considered, and we can help you overcome any challenges and reach your full potential.

Our Education department goes under the umbrella name of Learning for Life. Learning for Life is split into two course areas.

Step up into Care

Firstly, Step up into Care offers six course options based in the Health and Social Care Sector. The course options in Step up into Care are:

  • Safeguarding Children
  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Wellbeing
  • Dealing with Challenging Behaviour
  • Supporting People with Autism

All courses are offered over two days and run on a monthly basis. Upon completion you will receive a level 2 certificate in the topic you have studied.

Nurture Academy

Secondly, our Nurture Academy offers a level 2 Food Hygiene certificate followed by practical experience in our bespoke student kitchen working under a trained chef.

You will leave Cedarwood with both the knowledge of how to work safely in a kitchen and the practical skills to complete the experience.

All chef's whites and kitchen attire will be provided for you and is yours to keep upon completion of the course.

The Nurture Academy begins on the first Wednesday of each month and is spread over three weeks to combine classroom based knowledge with practical skill.

What next?

Upon completion of your course Cedarwood provides students with guidance and advice from our dedicated Aftercare Team. This offers a variety of options to support you to achieve your goals at the end of the course and beyond.

Whatever your plan we will work with you to help you achieve it and act as the first step toward a more fulfilling future.

One of the many options available to Cedarwood students includes guaranteed interviews with Age UK for care based jobs, Tynemouth Castle Inn for hospitality based jobs, and KFC apprenticeship scheme that will provide you with a level 3 Chef qualification upon completion.
